SCA Persona 101

⚠️These are SCA Class Notes which were originally hosted on my SCA-focused portfolio HugoVanHarlo.com. I have since retired that website and have consolidated all my historic interests here to RebelsOrBeggars.com.

The concept of a “persona” can be nebulous and confusing when you’re new to the Society for Creative Anachronism. Figuring out what and how you’re supposed to use one after you’ve picked out a time and date can be even more daunting.

I first developed this class in 2017 with a goal to demystify the concept of Persona and give attendees tools to choose, develop, and use theirs.

Note that at the time of writing, the SCA’s remit was focused on pre-17th Century Europe and those parts of the world which had had (substantial) European contact. In the years since, the SCA has formally widened its scope to all of human history, across the globe, before 1601… with some wiggle room into the middle of the Seventeenth Century.
