Though the ongoing conflict of the Dutch Revolt disrupted lives and ravaged both the urban center and rural countryside, the lively spirits of Renaissance creativity and Humanist scholarship remained present across the Low Countries.

Following the generation of Heironimous Bosch, artists from the Low Countries began began to adapt their native Netherlandish tradition to the Italian Renaissance and Mannerist trends, leading to the Northern Renaissance.

The number of painters and engravers of note from the Low Countries is significant (a sign of the ready market of art buyers and patrons in the densely urban region), but here are some of the more well-known or important figures.
