Rhys Ifans as Edward de Vere in Anonymous (2011)
This is nothing else than a swag appreciation post for the costume and set design in Roland Emmerich’s 2011 film Anonymous. The plot itself is a load of conspiracy theory drivel, but I can overlook it to get my 1500s fix.
Welsh actor Rhys Ifans plays Edward de Vere, the Earl of Oxford and – according to the silliness of the movie – the true author of Shakespeare’s works. Who cares about that when the dude gets to swagger around, pontificate with his crew, and sit and write while looking as cool as this?
Bonus points for the blackwork, actual leather jerkins over doublets with actual sleeves, and ruffs & cuffs actually showing up on male characters.
