Family Music Lessons

When your parents make you and your siblings all take music lessons… and you all hate it. Or sports. Or summertime arts and crafts classes. Who else has been there? 😉

This piece is c. 1568 and attributed to the anonymous Master of the Countess of Warwick.

Sober, somber black clothing befitting what I suspect is a Protestant upper middle class family, but look at the flowers worn by the girl here (I can’t speak to if it’s technically a corsage or not)!

And another detail – one that’s a particular pet peeve of mine with reenactments, popular media, and historical clothing reproductions of the era: even these kids are wearing both neck ruffs and ruff cuffs! C’mon now!
