Albert Kretschmer Prints: German & French Costumes of 1550-1600
Need a quick momentary distraction from tonight’s US presidential debate? How about some cool lithographs?
These are four sheets from a much larger collection of illustrations of historic costumes by Albert Kretschmer published in the early 1880s.
The German edition is titled “Die Trachten der Völker vom Beginn der Geschichte bis zum 19. Jahrhundert,” however English speakers may recognize it as “The Costumes of all Nations” as it was published numerous times both in the UK and the US.
So, not exactly rare of expensive Victorian prints, by any means, but they will look good once matted and framed on the wall with my 1870s lithograph set of geuzen and other figures from the Dutch Revolt by Johannes Hilverdink!
